About William H. Hays
William H. Hays makes richly colored linocut prints of weather, houses, and the land. Snow, late light, a road, a roofline. He painted for years in watercolor and oil before teaching himself reduction printing, and he still pulls every print by hand from his studio in Turners Falls, Massachusetts.
He often starts from the memory of a place rather than one fixed view, then builds the picture in layers of color. The results feel familiar and calm, like a landscape you already know.
