Japanese Prickly Ash Wood Twig Pestle (Sansho Surikogi)
From tree to finished product, these pestles are made entirely by hand using natural Japanese prickly ash wood. Prickly ash grows slowly, producing a dense, hard wood that excels at grinding spices, herbs, and other ingredients with ease and durability.
A good rule of thumb: choose a pestle length roughly twice the diameter of your mortar, though this can vary depending on what you're crushing. Available in two sizes to suit different mortars in the collection.
Each piece has subtle natural variations in size and grain, part of what makes them genuinely handmade.
Material: Natural Japanese prickly ash wood
Construction: Handmade
Origin: Made in Japan
Sold: Individually (mortar sold separately)
Care: Hand wash and dry immediately. Do not microwave, put in dishwasher, or place near open flame.
